PERMITTED DEVELOPMENT RIGHTS

Using permitted development rights for an extension

Permitted Development - an easier route than Planning Permission for contemporary projects

Tait Architects recently acquired a Certificate of Lawful Development for this minimalist rear extension with wrap around glazing in Reading.

The Lawful Development Certificate was gained using Permitted Development rights, along with the current Larger Home Extensions Neighbour Consultation Scheme.

For householders wanting more contemporary looking architecturally interesting solutions to extend their houses, Permitted Development, can be an easy route to obtaining something that might have been more contentious as a Planning Application because the actual appearance of the scheme is not considered in the same way.

The Larger Home Extensions Neighbour Consultation Scheme runs until May 2019 and allows for extensions larger than would normally be possible under Permitted Development Rights, provided a consultation with neighbours (following a set format) is undertaken first.
